The Story of Futagami

"Futagami" originated in the city of Takaoka, Toyama Pref. as a brass foundry in 1897. One of the oldest brass casting companies in Japan -  Futagami continues to create timeless, minimal  products that borrow traditions from ancient Buddhism.

It's continued success is maintained through a focus on quality handcrafted furnishings that intend to last for generations. The brass used in their products oxidises over the course of time to develop a rich patina; the more it is used the richer and more nuanced it becomes.

There are many types of casting methods in brass products, but Futagami use a very raw-type method through simple and playback casting.

The WAKU Futagami Brass Bottle Opener, designed by Oji Masanori for Futagami uses a hairline finish on the outside, whilst the casting surface inside remaines unfinished.
The geometric aesthetic of the WAKU opener makes for a beautiful gift. A brass artifact that can be appreciated for it's function and frame.
